RED COW PEAS WITH BRINJAL GRAVY | THATTA PAYARU KATHIRIKAI  KURUMA|KURUMA RECIPE

 
 
Thatta payaru is usually prepared like puli kuzhambu. I tried this as kurma, which will go good with chapati. As we do potato peas gravy , you can also try this. 

Ingredients:

  • Thatta payaru      - 1/3 cup
  • Onion                      - 1 big size
  • Tomato                    - 1 big size
  • Garlic                      - 5 cloves
  • Coconut                    - 1/2 cup
  • Tamarind                - small lemon size
  • Brinjal                       - 4
  • Cumin                       - 1/4 TSP
  • Fennel seed              - 1/4 TSP
  • Fenugreek                - 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard                    - 1/4 TSP
  • Urad dal                    - 1/4 TSP
  • All purpose masala - 1 tbsp (adjustable)
  • Sesame Oil                 - 2 tbsp
  • Salt and water as required

Method:

  • Heat pan add thatta payaru and dry roast it until it starts to split.
  • Cut brinjal into 4 , and put it in water. So that colour will not change.
  • Put this thatta payaru in cooker , add brinjal and add required water and make for 2 whistle.
  • Heat pan add oil, mustard, urad dal, Fenugreek, curry leaves, finely chopped onion ,garlic and cook until it's raw smell goes.
  • Now add salt, all purpose masala , tomato and add tamarind juice and cook until oil gets seperate.
  • In a meanwhile , grind coconut, cumin, fennel into fine paste.
  • After oil get separate add cooked thatta payaru, brinjal into this. Now add coconut paste into it and allow it to boil for 5 more minutes.
  • Now your kuruma is ready. 
  • Serve this with hot chapati.
