Black chickpeas | kondakadalai  is a protein rich food items which can be prepared as different recipes.Today I done this in gravy style.

Kondakadalai mixed with onion - tomato - tamarind give a complete gravy which go along with steam rice, chapati, idiyappam,etc...I have added coconut and home made masala powder.if you don't have all purpose masala powder , make a instant powder .

For instant powder ,
Red chilli - 8
Coriander seed - 2 tbsp
Cumin - 1/4 TSP
Pepper corn - 1/4 TSP
Fennel seed - 1/4 TSP 
Fenugreek - 5 to 10
   
For making instant powder , dry roast the above ingredients , cool it completely and grind it into fine paste. Add 1 to 2 tbsp water. If you skip water, you won't attain smooth paste.

Ingredients:

  •  Kondakadalai - 1 cup  
  •   Drumstick            - 1
  • Shallots       - 1/2 cup
  •  Brinjal                   - 6
  • Tomato               -2 medium size
  • Tamarind          - 1 tsp
  • Sesame Oil                - 4 tbsp
  • All purpose masala - 1.5 tbsp
  • Garlic                         - 6 cloves
  • Mustard seed           - 1/4 tsp
  • Urad dal                    - 1/4 tsp
  • Fenugreek                - 1/4 tsp
  • Coconut                    - 1/2 cup
  • Cumin seed              - 1/4 tbsp
  • Fennel seed              - 1/4 tbsp
  • Water and salt as required
  • Few curry leaves

 Directions:

  • Soak kondakadalai for  8 Hours/ overnight. Now wash it and put in cooker. Now add fresh water and allow 2 whistle.
  • Cut brinjal, drumsticks and put in water.Remove drumsticks strings correctly.
  • Heat pan add oil, now add onion . Stir until it's colour change. Now add tomato, tamarind and fry. Finally add coconut and masala and stir. Sprinkle some water , so that masala will not burn.

  • Cool it and grind it into fine paste.
  • Again heat pan add oil, add mustard. After it split add urad dal and Fenugreek. Now add curry leaves.
  • Now add brinjal, drumsticks and fry for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Now add cooked sundal with water, grounded paste,salt and required water. Don't add too much water, brinjal and drumsticks will get cooked soon.cook for 15 to 20 minutes by covering it with a lid.

  • Now enjoy this with idiyappam, steam rice, chapati,etc..
Note: 
Soak kondakadalai for 8 hr.
Use shallot, instead of onion.
If you don't have tamarind, add extra 2 tomatoes.
Put brinjal into water after cutting it.
