Mocha kottai masala in

Lima beans or mocha kottai (fresh/dried)is available in market.Today I am using fresh mocha kottai. If you don't have this, try it with dried mocha kottai. You can see fresh mocha kottai as seasonal one. Here, in south india we purchase during this season and make different recipes like mocha kottai pithuku parupu, mocha kottai kuzhambu, mocha kottai masala, mocha kottai fry and so on..

I have already post few recipes, visit and try it out. Don't forget to post your comments.
Today I have done this as a side dish for sambar rice. You can have this as side dish for all rice, chapati and have it as snacks too.

Taste of small onion, tomato, home made masala give a spicy touch. Along with this I had add coconut which give richness to masala.  Enjoy the taste ...

Peel the skin of mocha and keep the beans ready to cook. I have used all purpose masala , if you don't have alter it with 1/4 tsp turmeric powder,1/2tbsp red chilli powder and 1/2tbsp coriander powder.

  • Lima beans/ mocha kottai - 1/2 kg
  • Fennel seed    - 1 tsp
  • Cumin seed    - 1/2 tsp
  • Coconut.          - 1/4 cup
  • Shallot.            - 10 to 15 numbers
  • Tomato.           - 2 medium size.
  • Green chilly                      - 3.
  • Crushed ginger garlic.    - 2 tsp
  • All purpose masala         - 1 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder.           -1/4 tsp
  • Salt as required
  • Groundnut oil                  - 4 tsp
  • Curry leaves and coriander leaves as required.

Required ingredient

  1. Heat a cooker, add 4 tsp groundnut oil. After oil heats add fennel seed.
  2. After it splits add curry leaves, finely chopped shallots ,crushed ginger garlic and green chilli.saute it .
  3. After onion get glassy, add salt,1/4 tsp turmeric powder, all purpose masala.
  4. Now add tomato. Add little amount of water, so that the masala will not burnt.
  5. Now add mocha kottai in it and saute until tomato gets mashed well.(In a meanwhile, grind coconut along with 1/4 tsp fennel seed and 1/2 tsp cumin seed.)
  6. Now add coconut paste into the cooker, add required water. I add little amount of water , as to get dry mocha kottai masala. If you want as gravy, add required water and allow it for 3 whistle.

  7. After whistle goes, check the water level. If it remains watery, again keep the cooker in stove and dry water as required.

  8. Finally garnish with coriander leaves and change it to serving bowl.
             Thank you!
